Dear D2C Geeks,
Amazon recently announced Amazon Metis, a groundbreaking assistant designed to revolutionize the way consumers use chatbots. Named after the ancient Greek goddess of wisdom, Amazon Metis works with their Olympus model to harness the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to provide a smarter, more personalized chatbot experience.
What is Amazon Metis?
Amazon Metis is a new artificial intelligence assistant that provides a wider range of features that make AI usage more accurate and gives users more of what they need. Here's what customers can expect:
What Makes Metis Different from Other Chatbots?
1. RAG Integration
Metis integrates retrieval augmented generation (RAG) to browse a wider range of data and provide more specific search results for users. This RAG technology allows Metis to access information outside of Olympus’ initial data set and provides more up-to-date information. One example of this is providing live stock prices.
2. Reliability
Amazon faces competition from established chatbots such as ChatGPT and other AI tools. Metis’ biggest selling point will be the use of RAG because it allows for more accurate results. This accuracy can save users time and lower the amount of inputs before receiving the desired output.
3. Additional Features:
Metis is reportedly being developed to be used alongside Amazon Alexa and provide features such as booking flights and turning on a users’ lights (Nguyen, 2024). These features, as well as the traditional text and image outputs provided by other AI chatbots will allow Amazon to further argue why Metis should be a user’s go-to service.
Overall, Amazon is still rumored to be developing Metis and it will be interesting to see what the tech and retail giant produces. Amazon faces the challenge of competing with a concentrated AI market but has RAG up their sleeve as a selling point. The service is rumored to be announced in September.
